Dibble

This history was written in about 1912 and so was incomplete when I recevied it from a cousin in Rixford Pennsylvania, as well as some mentioned to be living are, in fact, not. I have added some information, but still lacking in many areas. As time goes, and I recieve information, I will update what is contained here. Dibble

(I) Ira Dibble, the first member of this family of whom we have definite information, married
Charlotte, daughter of Ebenezer Root (above), who was born at Oxford, New York, in 1805, died
near Guilford Center, Chenango county, New York, September 30, 1900. Her father was a
soldier in the revolutionar war and removed from Great Barrington, Massachusetts, to near
Guilford Center after the war was over. He served five terms of service as a minute-man and
received an hornorable discharge after each term of service. The shortest of these terms was of
three days duration, in Captain Silas Goodrich's Company, Colonel John Ashley's regiment,
serving at Bennington, Vermont, under Brigadier General Stark from August 15 to 21, 1777. His
daughter, Mrs. Charlotte (Root) Dibble, was a member of the Daughters of the American
Revolution, and at the age of thirteen united with the Presbyterian church. Children of Ira and
Charlotte (Root) Dibble, all born in Chenango county, New York:

1. George W. Dibble, living in Gilbertsville, New York; married February 12, 1863, Melissa G.
Spencer, born in January, 1844, died February 24, 1907; children: George M., Jennie, married
Charles W. Gadsby,
2. Wilson W. Dibble, livingin South Dakota; married and was the father of several children.
3. William Warner Dibble, referred to below,
4. Cynthia, died near Mount Upton, New York, July 3, 1912; married (first) a Mr. Fenno, (second)
Joseph Thurston; children by second marriage: Joseph R.; Effie, Daisy
5. Nellie, died in Bainbridge, New York, in 1892; married a Mr. Moody.

After her first husband's death, Mrs. Charlotte (Root) Dibble married (second) Charles Godfrey,
of Guilford, by whom she had one son, Charles W. Godfrey.




(II) William Warner Dibble, son of Ira and Charlotte (Root) Dibble, was born in Chenango county,
New York, December 10, 1833, died in Keating township, McKean county, Pennsylvania,
October 24, 1895. He learned the trade of stone mason and Plasterer, working first in Otsego
county, New York, and later in Keating township, McKean Pennsylvania. He was a Democrat in
politics.

He married Adelia, daughter of Charles D. Calkins. Her father was a native of New England,
born in 1814, died at East Smethport, Pennsylvania, in 1898. He removed to Keating township.
He was a Democrat and active in Christian work. He married (first) Judith Ann Otto, who died
April 1, 1841; (second) Lucina Nichols of Eldred, Pennsylvania, who is now living at Smethport.
Children, three by first wife:

Caroline, married A. J. Otto; Adelia, referred to above; Judith Ann, married Eben Pratt; Charles
H.; Ada; Cynthia; Kate, married Charles Lemler; Lucy. Child of William Warner and Adelia
(Calkins) Dibble: William Jackson, referred to below.




(III) William Jackson Dibble, only child of William Warner and Adelia (Calkins) Dibble, was born
near Gilbertsville, Otsego county, New York, August 26, 1868, and is now living in Rixford,
Pennsylvania. He went with his parents to Keating township, McKean county, Pennsylvania, in
1870, and to Port Allegany in 1882. He received his education in the public schools and the
McKean and Potter counties, Pennsylvania, and then worked on an oil lease until 1910, when he
became postmaster of Rixford, receiving his appointment from the civil service list. He also
keeps a general store in Rixford. He is a Republican in politics, and has served as school
director and township auditor for Keating township. He is a member of Foster Lodge, No. 333,
Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Pennsylvania, and attends the Methodist church.

He married at Jamestown, New York July 2, 1902, Blanche Belle, born at Rixford, April 6, 1883,
daughter of James Milton and Susanna (Page) Miller (see Miller II). She was educated in the
public schools and Sugargrove Seminary; then taught school for one term in Prenticeville,
Pennsylvania, and finished a term at Summit City. She is a member of the United brethren
church and of the Ladies Thimble Club. Children, all born in Rixford (11 total?):

(I) William Miller, the first member of this family of whom we have definite information, was born
"east of the mountains" in 1809, died in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, in 1885. He married
Agnes Adams, a descendant of President Adams. Children:

(II) James Milton, son of William and Agnes (Adams) Miller, was born in Mercer county,
Pennsylvania, March 7, 1840, died at Rixford, May 30, 1897. He was an oil worker in the
Rouseville and Bradford fields and finally settled at Rixford. He as a Prohibitionist in politics,
served as school director, was a Baptist in religion, although later in life he joined the United
Brethren and became a class leader, a chorister and Sunday school superintendent. He married
Susanna, born in 1847, died at Smethport, April 22, 1888, daughter of John B. and Matilda
(Wentz) Page. Children:

Minnie Loella, born March 21, 1867, married John W. Lilley;
Charles Edwin, born September 10, 1869, married Lula McCord (see below);
Lillian Maude, born November 14, 1872, married Henry Clark;
Hiram died young;
Hattie, died young'
Blanche Belle, married William Jackson Dibble (see Dibble III);
Perry Milton, born October 24, 1885, married Annie McCann;
James Page, born November 25, 1887, unmarried.

Charles Edwin and Lula (McCord) Miller had one son:
Aden Miller

William Jackson Dibble married 2nd after Blanche Belle's death, Lula (McCord) Miller after
Charles Edwin Millers death.




(IV) David Eugene Dibble was born in Rixford Pennsylvania on Feburary 10, 1927. He married at
Sherman Texas, Mary Jane Casler, October 29, 1950, and he died August 9th, 1999.
His obituary.

 Mary Jane (Casler) Dibble was born at Muskoggie, Oklahoma on July 6, 1927 to Jack and Effie
(Newton) Casler. They had one son:

(V) David Eugene Dibble II was born in Charleston, South Caralona on December 16, 1954.
He married Laurie Ann Leguet in 1978 and had two children.
Divorced in 1982.
